Job Description
Job Purpose:
As a crucial part of the Behavioral Health (BH) Team, the Patient Services Representative plays a vital role in serving both insured and uninsured clients. Their focus is on providing care to individuals who may face obstacles in accessing healthcare due to various factors, such as income, language, cultural, and social barriers. The Patient Services Representative position provides clerical and clinical support to the Outpatient Behavioral Health team including the Mental Health and Psychiatry programs. 
Duties:
  • Acts as the first point of contact for mental health patients and provides day-to-day clerical support to administrative office activities for the mental health/ behavioral health team. 
  • Greets visitors, patients, and families in a friendly, trauma-informed, professional manner and direct or triage them appropriately for services. 
  • Accurately check patients in and out for all patient appointments and update patient records, verifies insurance including eligibility; verify and/ or update patient demographic information at every visit; ensure patient paperwork and surveys are distributed; and collect patient payment as indicated. 
  • Obtain the signature of the patient or family member for consent to treatment and financial responsibility following the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) rules and regulations. 
  • Schedule patients in accordance with established provider schedules and clinic protocols. 
  • Provides quality customer service over the phone and in person including answering telephone calls, screening calls, taking messages, provide patients with pre-appointment information and questions. 
  • Adheres to all mental health protocols regarding the management and compassionate care of patients undergoing mental health crises.
  • Answers patient inquiries of all types in an effort to streamline the process for patients and refers appropriate clinical questions to medical assistants/clinical personnel or other departments, as necessary. 
  • Build trust and rapport with internal and external customers as well as community partners.
  • Supports program goals to reduce cultural, socioeconomic, and other barriers to care.
Education and/or Experience and Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience in Electronic Health Records, customer service, or public relations preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office software. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Reliable attendance and consistent community engagement
  • Organizational and time management skills.
Licensures/Certifications:
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Comprehensive training class completed within 6 months of hire and recertify prior to the expiration date. 
Immunizations Required:
  • Hepatitis B
  • COVID
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting/or standing at a desk working at a computer.
  • Able to lift 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Able to travel as needed.
