Waste Control Specialist is Hiring a TSDF Lead Rail Operator Near Andrews, TX

Reports To: Operations Supervisor
Location: Andrews Worksite Facility

Summary
Leads and coordinates activities of workers engaged in operations of the facility and rail operation personnel in the use, safety procedures and operation of heavy equipment or waste processing. Directly reports to the TSDF Operations Supervisor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may receive occupational exposures to ionizing radiation that are As Low As is Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) and within regulatory limits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Helps inspect work areas to determine type of work required, materials needed and equipment to be used.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work related goals.
  • Partners with Operations Supervisor to adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Follows company policies and job orders to workers and ensures safety regulations are being followed.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of production.
  • Assists Operations Supervisor to resolve work issues or assists employees in problem solving.
  • Confers with the Operations Supervisor to coordinate activities.
  • Performs Operator job responsibilities.
  • Assists Operators in departmental training.
  • Apply and reinforce the skills learned through training to prevent personal errors and errors by other team members.
  • Performs other related work activities as required.
  • Organize and plan all rail interchanges
  • Work with the Transportation Coordinator on rail inventory
  • Plan rail off loads, and disposals.
  • Coordinate rail and line maintenance
  • Coordinate locomotive maintenance.
  • Interact with the RR on to ensure compliance with all rail equipment requirements.
  • Coordinate FRA site audits and inspections to ensure compliance with federal regulations.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical institute in engineering or construction technology; or sixty hours related study in the field of hazardous waste management, environmental science and/or radiation health and two to three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicant will also need to be a qualified track inspector, minimum of two years rail experience, RCO qualified, and fluent with GCOR.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret simple instructions and short correspondence. Ability to write simple correspondence Ability to conduct pre-job briefings to groups in a logical and organized manner Ability to develop & present safety related topics. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals, and small group situations

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide, in all unit of measures, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

Reasoning Abilities
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of internet software and word processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Desired but not required: Level III National Certification from the National Center for Construction Education and Research or the ability to obtain Level III certification within 6 months.

The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may receive occupational exposures to ionizing radiation that are As Low As is Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) and within regulatory limits. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Working surfaces are often uneven and representative of a construction site.
