Waste Control Specialist is Hiring a Technical Specialists - Health Physics Near Andrews, TX

Department: Radiation Safety
Reports To: Radiation Safety Manager
Location: Andrews, Tx Worksite Facility

Summary:
To provide health physics (HP) support to Facilities/assigned projects, technical support in various areas that include but are not limited to radiological environmental monitoring, data analysis, data management and regulatory reporting of the Radiological Environmental Monitoring Program.

Duties may include but are not limited to:
Providing Technical HP/Radiological Environmental Monitoring program management and oversight:

  • Establishing, implementing, and maintaining radiation protection performance models and metrics based on environmental monitoring data.
  • Managing Environmental Monitoring related non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Analysis, data gathering, and preparing annual Radiological Environmental Monitoring Report (REMP).

Technical HP/RS services for assigned facilities and projects:

  • Project specific dose assessments utilizing data management software, spreadsheets and/or customized software.
  • Preparation, review and/or approval of environmental monitoring compliance reports.
  • Response and investigation of unplanned events pertaining to the REMP.
  • Review and approval of the selection and procurement of environmental radio analytical services.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of recommendations and guidelines of environmental radiological protection standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of radiation protection philosophies, procedures, equipment, and techniques used both in theory and practice.
  • Use of Microsoft computer software, knowledge, and use of databases.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work to meet objectives and targets.
  • Ability to make decisions based on established requirements, procedures, and practices.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelors in Health Physics / Physical Science or related field, or an Associate degree in Health Physics/Radiation Safety Technology or related field, and/or fifty (50) hours of related study and 2-3 years of experience in the field of environmental monitoring or combination of education and experience per the discretion of the hiring manager is required.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of algebra.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software and Microsoft Access.
