Washington University in St. Louis is seeking intellectually curious and highly motivated candidate for a research technician position.

Position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments including documentation and preparation of materials in Dr. Adam Kepecs’ lab using cutting edge tools including electrophysiology and optogenetics to investigate the neural circuits underlying decision making.

The Kepecs lab uses cutting edge tools from systems neuroscience including electrophysiology and optogenetics to investigate the neural circuits underlying decision making and. The technician will work closely with lab members in conducting experiments as well as perform general research and laboratory tasks.

Position Requirements:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in life, biological or quantitative sciences (e.g. Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Physics).

EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate will have made a contribution to a research project in their field with undergraduate level education. General laboratory experience with independent troubleshooting of results and problem-solving is desirable. Prior experience with techniques used in the lab (such as animal handling, behavioral training, and small animal procedures) is valued but not required. On-the-job training is a central aspect of this position.

SKILLS: The candidate must be highly organized and able to multitask. Strong analytical and organizational abilities as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills are desirable. In addition, programming and quantitative skills are highly valued but not necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The ideal candidate will independently conduct experiments using a range of tools, including rodent operant training, electrophysiology, optogenetics, stereotactic surgery and histology, as well as analyze and present data. Responsibilities include general laboratory organization and maintenance.
