Washington Penn is Hiring a HSE Specialist Near La Fayette, GA

The HSE Engineer leads the compliance programs by developing, establishing, implementing, reviewing and revising site procedures and programs as required and needed. The HSE Engineer will apply subject matter expertise to solve complex issues within established legal and other standards. The HSE Engineer will provide guidance and direction to plant personnel in achieving compliance with all applicable regulatory obligations and company standards. As appropriate, the HSE Engineer will act as a team member or project manager providing direction to team activities and help facilitate in team decision-making processes.

Requirements:
General EHS:

· Assist and coordinate compliance and maintenance of the environmental, safety and health management systems and certification. Collaborate in the development, execution, monitoring and continuous improvement of HSE programs. Apply technical knowledge to improve site HSE performance.

· Ensure effective development and delivery of all HSE-related training and education programs, maintains HSE training records.

· Assist with Identification, prioritization, and communication of site HSE risks including inspecting and evaluating the environment, equipment, and processes and developing controls to eliminate or reduce the risk and facilitate compliance with government regulations and industry standards. Actively engage and assist with Operational changes to assess HSE impacts of change and communicate requirements to appropriate project teams.

· Assist with maintenance and coordination of the facilities' HSE performance metrics, supports preparation of reports to ensure that performance data is communicated to all applicable parties, internal and external.

· Partner with Plant Leadership and HR through safety-related incidents and assist with employee relations investigations

· Assist with coordinating responses to internal and external inquiries and concerns related to HSE.

Environmental:

· Assist with industrial operation's compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations by interpreting standards, developing and enforcing adherence to regulations, and advising management on needed actions.

· Assist with generating environmental reports and maintaining permits as per state and federal regulations.

· Acts as liaison with government agencies, insurance carrier inspectors, and serves as site environmental representative in case of inquiries and inspections to correct deficiencies and to minimize citations and fines for noncompliance.

· Tracks performance of air emission equipment within the facility through system checks, monitoring of maintenance activities (e.g. preventive maintenance inspections), and where appropriate recommending repairs or improvements to dust and fume collection systems

· Develop and implement environmental inspection policies and procedures; schedule routine inspections and audits to monitor environmental compliance.

· Participate in gathering data, performing necessary calculations, and summarizing required information into acceptable report formats for various monthly, annual and biannual environmental reports.

· Lead and assist projects to reduce overall environmental aspects and impact from site operations; develop effective environmental strategies as well as review and recommend improvements to existing environmental strategies.

· Stay updated with environmental trends and legislation.

Safety:

· Support completion of incident investigations, root cause analyses, developing action plans and maintaining records of closure of corrective actions; assist with maintaining the site's OSHA 300 Log and worker’s compensation injuries and return to work programs.

· Facilitate safety by training, mentoring and coaching others at the facility who have responsibilities for safety programs, safe work practices, and safety teams; assist with evaluation of risk and employee safety recommendations and complaints; assist with the identification and application of acceptable corrective measures.

· Observes workers and work practices, guides and promotes safe work performance by developing and preparing JSAs or safety operating procedures and identifying equipment to be utilized based on regulatory compliance and corporate standards and implement accordingly.

· Conducting and/or coordinating industrial hygiene testing (and other testing as required) according to regulatory standards. Maintain exposure databases. Create sampling reports and action plans as directed. Ability to conduct respirator, noise, indoor air quality, ergonomics, chemical and other health surveys.

· Lead or support the Safety Committee tours and meetings. Assist in developing corrective action items for safety tour findings, document findings, and follow up to ensure adequate and timely closure of the corrective action requests and ensure that coordinated safety training and motivational campaigns are conducted and documented in association with company policies.

· Be an active member of the plant leadership team and global HSE team.

Minimum Requirements:

· Bachelor's degree Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering or other related fields with emphasis in industrial safety programs or equivalent

· 2-5 years related EHS experience

· Knowledge of environmental regulations and experience with regulatory reporting

· Demonstrated ability to lead others

· Ability to travel for training, audits, etc.

· Flexibility to transition to other shifts as needed for HSE activities such as training, IH sampling.

· Demonstrated behavioral competencies around driving action, pre-planning and prevention.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
