Founded in 1852, Wartburg College is a selective four-year liberal arts college of the Lutheran Church (ELCA), nationally
recognized for community engagement. The college offers more than 50 academic majors and pre-professional and

certificate programs leading to the bachelor’s degree. The college is located in Waverly, Iowa, a growing community of more
than 10,000 residents. As part of the Cedar Valley metro area (near Waterloo and Cedar Falls), Waverly has an abundance of

cultural, musical, and recreational opportunities. Major Midwest metropolitan areas within driving distance include Des
Moines, Iowa (2.5 hours); Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn. (3 hours); Madison, Wis. (3.5 hours); Rochester, Minn. (2 hours);

POSITION: Lecturer or Visi�ng Assistant Professor in English
TITLE: Visi�ng Teaching Fellow (1-year appointment)
COMPENSATION: Compe��ve salary and benefits; college housing may be available (TBD)
STARTING DATE: August 2024
TIMELINE: Screening of applica�ons begins immediately and con�nues un�l the posi�on is filled.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful candidates will provide evidence of the following qualifica�ons:
Required:
MA or MFA in English (or related field), with crea�ve wri�ng experience. Commitment to student-centered
learning, successful and innova�ve college-level teaching, and commitment to inclusive communi�es.
Preferred:
PhD or ABD in English or related field. Relevant experience in the following areas: fic�on wri�ng;
screenwri�ng; composi�on; film studies.
Successful candidates will also have a demonstrated commitment to promo�ng diversity, inclusion, and
cultural competence in an educa�onal and work environment and must be willing to support the College’s
mission and contribute to the strategic plan.
DUTIES:
  • The successful candidate will fulfill the duties of visiting faculty in teaching the following courses:

1. Composi�on
2. Fic�on wri�ng and screenwri�ng

3. Introductory film studies
  • In addition to instruction, hold office hours for students, grade tests and papers, provide other
instruction-related duties, and mentor students.
  • Actively participate in faculty development opportunities, attend faculty workshops, attend faculty
meetings.
  • Give one public presentation related to the research interests.
The inaugural Teaching Fellow will contribute to the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, teaching
a 2-3-1 load, mentoring students, and giving a public presenta�on based on their research. This is an ideal posi�on
for an early career educator, awarded the MA, MFA or PhD within the past two years or ABD and interested in
teaching in a liberal arts environment. A faculty mentor will be assigned and the fellow will par�cipate in our
comprehensive faculty development program. This is a one-year posi�on.
