Job Description

About the Position

You’ll join a top-notch team and help define Walton Enterprises’ Data Strategy and lead the organization to establish the foundations for data and analytics programs that improve data availability, quality, and access. An important part of this strategy will be to build a data-driven vision to provide business insights and support strategic outcomes.

What you will do

Responsibilities

  • Develop company-wide data strategy and best practices for data creation, collection, storage, processing, access, and value creation
  • Lead the technical direction for architecting, designing, and implementing the data architecture that enables reporting, analytics, data science, and machine learning
  • Have a passion and track record for playing full-stack Data leader, thinking carefully about data quality, use cases, and ROI of data infrastructure investments
  • Architect, design, develop, and operate highly scalable, high-performance, low-cost, and accurate data pipelines in distributed data processing platforms
  • Lead team of data engineers and analysts, and provide mentoring to ensure client and industry best practices are followed across ETL processes
  • Participate in design and architectural review sessions with data and software engineering teams to ensure instrumentation and measurement of what matters most to our customers
  • Collaborate with software engineering and product leadership to translate business requirements into data products, managed with product lifecycle
  • Work with ETL solutions using Python, BigQuery, Data Bricks, and other tooling to enhance and integrate data into GCP/Big Data platforms
  • Work on data platform architecture/re-architecture projects to promote operational excellence in Data Lake/Data Warehouse via automation
  • Collaborate with Engineers and Data Analysts to construct complex data sources for algorithms and machine learning models
  • Define and drive adoption of BI best practices in reporting, analysis, data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation
  • Define data access, governance, and stewardship policies and partner with Data Stewards and Engineers to model foundational schemas and establish data contracts to improve production-level data quality

Who we are looking for

Qualifications required for your success

  • 8 years of data engineering experience building end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines and working with data warehouses, data lakes, and their underlying cloud infrastructure
  • 5 years of leadership experience in defining data architectures; making technical recommendations and decisions (buy and build); and providing guidance, direction, and mentoring to Data analysts and Engineers
  • 3 years of experience using Big Data cloud technologies (GCP and Azure), tools, frameworks, trends, and knowledge of reporting and analytics use cases
  • Experience with data modeling, data governance, metadata, data lineage, data quality and scheduling, batch, and streaming data architecture
  • Experience with data governance, schema design, and schema evolution
  • Advanced knowledge of best practices in software engineering, data management, data storage, data compute, and distributed systems, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, version control systems (GitLab), source management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Experience implementing DevOps best practices within the data platform, including solutions for CI/CD, data observability, monitoring, and lineage
  • Proficient in Python, SQL, and code/query optimization
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Strong technical and analytical aptitude
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/related field or professional experience in a related field

Additional Helpful Experience Includes

  • GCP / Azure Cloud Services certifications
  • Experience writing and managing intelligent automation workflows
  • Experience in a variety of techniques for producing and consuming data across multiple cloud providers
