The Wabtec Movement Planner (MP) team combines software application expertise with railroad domain knowledge to implement an advanced algorithmic software solution that provides real-time traffic planning for world’s railroad networks. In this role an individual will engage with internal teams to provide technical leadership to improve Movement Planner to move freight faster at a lower cost while using existing rail networks. This role will report to senior manager of MP team. How will you make a difference? As a subject matter expert of the MP team, you will be responsible for guiding engineers to build simple solutions to complex problems, with a large number of variables and scenarios considered. This role requires collaborating with developers, cyber security analysts, senior management, and other external stakeholders to implement effective analysis, quality, to address customer questions and support if major outage occurs. In this role, technical lead will work with product architect to address and execute technical roadmap for product advancement. What do we want to know about you? You must have: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering 7 years minimum experience developing software in professional environment 7 years minimum experience as subject matter expert for a software application 7 years minimum experience triaging software issues in production or test environments We would love it if you had: Hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies, deployment, and customer engagement. Expertise with Java/J2EE, C , SOA, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Java Script & Angular will be a plus. Strong experience developing large-scale Web-based solutions and familiarity with the technology involved. Experience with distributed SQL like Kafka, DDS / No SQL systems like Rabbit MQ. Proven experience in delivering highly available applications for mission-critical systems. Advanced understanding of orchestration frameworks, software design patterns for HA, and observable microservices. Ability to understand the technology stack and its impact on the final product. Capable of efficiently conducting customer and stakeholder interviews and elaborating on personas. Superior knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle and strong collaboration history with Quality Engineering and Dev Ops teams. Strong problem-solving abilities and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignments to others. Ability to break down complex problems and estimate the level of effort. Understanding of microservice-based and message-driven architectures Proactively identifies and removes project obstacles or barriers on behalf of the team. Able to navigate difficult situations and accountability within a matrixed organization. Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions. Ability to respond positively to feedback and implement change in processes and procedures as needed. Rail domain experience is a plus What will your typical day look like? Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like lean/agile/XP, CI, software and product security, scalability, documentation practices, refactoring and testing techniques Collaborate with C and Java developers on client-server architecture, microservices or RESTful services. Contribute to peer reviews with the intent of strengthening the quality of software. Interpret field reports and test results to support troubleshooting of issues. Work with mixed discipline team of architect, developers, product owners, and data quality engineers to implement tools and strategies to improve product. Perform data analytics and other strategies to optimize the efficiency and quality of data being collected. Work with management to prioritize business and information needs and identify new processes that will improve the systems in place to define new opportunities. What about the physical demands of the job? Employee will be performing work that primarily involves sitting/standing. Employee will spend a lot of time looking at a computer monitor. Employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Employee able to travel if needed less than 10% Employee able to use a computer for programming and interacting with his team. Employee will be repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Employee will be communicating with others to exchange information.
