Job Summary:
WAAY 31 is looking for an energetic and charismatic Sports Anchor/MMJ who will also cover news. The right person for this job understands local sports is a lot more than game highlights and postgame interviews with coaches.
This position is for someone who wants to approach sports from a community-based perspective. We are looking for someone to tell the stories of our local athletes. You also must be able to identify when sports becomes the news and help flag those situations.
All candidates should also understand covering news is part of the job. News drives our product and is the key piece to our success. If you aren’t willing to cover news, please do not apply.
This job also offers wonderful benefits to college sports fans. Huntsville, AL is in the heart of SEC Country. You will have the chance to cover the SEC Championship Game, and College Football Playoffs.
Huntsville, AL is a hidden gem. Rolling mountains surround the city, as do lakes and rivers. We are also home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, Space Camp, the US Army’s Aviation and Missile command and the second largest research park in the country. If you like to travel, Nashville is a two-hour drive and Atlanta is a little more than three hours away.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor degree in Journalism, Mass Communication or equivalent.2 years experience as an MMJ is required. Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to shoot and edit video.
Must be willing to work in any weather condition, holidays, and weekends.
