Middle School Computer Science/STEM Teacher

Status: Full Time

Reports to: Middle School Principal

Voyager Academy is a fully accredited K-12 charter school located in Durham, NC where students participate in deep learning through authentic project based learning experiences. We are currently seeking a Computer Science/STEM Teacher to join our Middle School Team.

Job Description:

The Computer Science/STEM teacher will integrate technology in authentic and meaningful ways. Responsible for providing Computer Science and STEM instruction for 4th-8th grades. Courses include lessons in digital literacy, keyboarding, word processing, google apps, basic computer programming. STEM activities and challenges should also be incorporated in the curriculum along with exposure to STEM career exploration. All lessons should follow North Carolina’s Computer Science standards.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Employment hours are 7:45 - 3:45, Monday through Friday of each school week.

  • Work together with the Elective Team to create a well rounded set of electives courses
  • Instruct students in basic programming and computer science using Code.Org
  • Teach basic keyboarding
  • Keep records of grades and perform other administrative duties as needed
  • Integrate STEM projects into classes
  • Read and stay abreast of current topics in computer science education and careers
  • Integrate robotics, basic circuitry (Snap Circuits) and microcomputing into course
  • Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational and cultural backgrounds of the students served
  • Utilize professional development opportunities to increase computer science knowledge and pedagogical skills
  • Support teachers with the use and integration of technology into project based learning experiences for students


Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Arts/Science in Education or field of instruction, NC Certification/license
