VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA OF ILLINOIS is Hiring a Manager, Veterans Support Services Near Chicago, IL

Summary of Position: Under the immediate supervision of the Senior Director of the True North Project, the Manager of Veterans Support Services is responsible for the leadership and oversight of advancement services provided within the True North Project. Support services include but are not limited to housing stability, financial literacy, referrals and ongoing client case coordination. Ensures that staff provides a range of high quality supportive services designed to promote stability to eligible very low-income Veteran families. This position is responsible for coordinating initiatives and ensuring excellence in service delivery within the program.

Position Type: This position is Exempt and reports to the Senior Director of the True North Project

Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The functions listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required for the position.   • Responsible for providing ongoing supervision to assigned team members working from multiple locations including individual and group supervision and participation in staff performance reviews.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled meetings with assigned staff to guide and evaluate support services.
  • Designs, promotes, and sustains practices centered on service excellence to all program participants.
  • Implements the True North Project service delivery model with direct staff.
  • Promotes a positive work culture that embraces excellence and celebrates success.
  • Summarizes support service activities and reports results to appropriate staff and administrators.
  • Coordinates current services and plans for future services with the Senior Director and the Manager, Veterans Advancement Services.
  • Suggests policies and changes in current program that will increase the effectiveness of the program.
  • Assists with data collection and reporting to federal and local grants.
  • Works collaboratively with key external partners on initiatives designed to end Veteran homelessness in the communities served by the True North Project.
  • Represents the interests of the agency, the program and the program participants in all networking and public relations opportunities. Accepts responsibility for appraisal of own work and for own professional development.
  • Delivers services with sensitivity to the clients cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Upholds the mission and values of the agency and serves as a role model to others.

Other Duties:As assigned by the Senior Director of the True North Project.

Work Environment: Generally, this position operates in a professional office environment; however, this position requires frequent travel in and around the community by utilizing a personal vehicle or other methods of transportation. The hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Physical Demands: Physical demands may be a part of the essential functions of this position especially as it relates to the capacity to move freely around the community in a vehicle, transport clients, etc. Reasonable accommodations for the physical demands of the essential functions of the position can be considered and made when possible, in response to a specific request.

Qualifications:

  • Must have supervisory and case management experience
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must demonstrate ability to achieve goals and be solution-focused
  • Have familiarity with community resources
  • Requires flexibility to travel to multiple work sites to provide oversite and supervision to staff and programs, and to work day and evening hours including weekends and holidays as needed
  • Must have a firm understanding of computer database systems

Education and Experience:

This position requires a bachelors degree and five years of related experience.
