Description

Objective

Monitor clients, guests, and facility operations during assigned shift

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

1. Manage and monitor homeless client population

  • Provide safe and ethical care of the homeless population according to policies and procedures
  • Assist in coordinating client activities
  • Ability to apply crisis management interventions situationally
  • Convey client concerns to appropriate personnel
  • Document unusual incidents or occurrences
  • Establish a rapport with client population
  • Perform hourly visual observations of all clients assigned to ensure their safety and well-being, documenting results
  • Oversee random drug testing
  • Accurately monitor and log medication storage and usage

2. Secure and ensure safety of program facility and clients

  • Ensure security of doors, windows, and gates of facility
  • Conduct routine visual inspections of facility and population
  • Circulate among clients, employees, and visitors to preserve order and safety
  • Report maintenance or facility problem areas ASAP
  • Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons
  • Be familiar with power, water and gas shutoffs, clean-out traps, fire extinguishers and fire systems
  • Maintain immediate access to emergency numbers (e.g. Police, fire department, Program Manager, maintenance
  • Facilitate client evacuation of facility/safety in case of emergency
    • Bring relieving Case Monitor up to speed at shift change
    • Facilitate managing crises according to de-escalation and protection policies and procedures
    • Participate in facility maintenance and cleanliness, i.e., empty trash, clean workspace, etc.

3. Participate in staff meetings

4. Complete assigned online trainings as scheduled

5. Work effectively with outside organizations

6. Additional responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with VOA Michigan policies and procedures
  • Ensure that all duties are carried out in a timely and orderly fashion so that VOA Michigan functions in the most efficient manner possible
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Some College or Associates Degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, or related field preferred
  • Two (2) years experience in direct client care or security required. Equivalent combination of education and experience and proven ability to relate effectively with similar populations will be considered
  • General knowledge of crisis management interventions
  • General knowledge of laws affecting and services available to service recipients
  • Must have ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Must have proven ability to react professionally in emergency situations
  • Availability to work a non-traditional schedule that includes holidays, evenings, and weekends
  • Must have quality interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills
  • Must have ability to document client activity verbally and in writing
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to enter information into a computerized database
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to oversee random drug testing
