HR ASSISTANT

Duties and Responsibilities
· Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring process, et cetera; refers the more complex questions to VP of HR & Safety or appropriate member of management.
· Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
· Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
· Provides clerical and administrative support to VP of HR & Safety.
· Assists with payroll functions including preparing timecards for payroll processing, and tracking time off.
· Assists with the recruitment process by identifying candidates, scheduling interviews, and performing reference checks.
· Conducts or assists with new hire orientation to foster positive attitudes toward organizational objectives.
· Coordinates training sessions and webinars.
· Assists with planning and execution of events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and other celebrations.
· Assists with the initial handling of work comp injuries, if needed.
· Assists in identifying general employee issues such as low morale, lack of teamwork, office politics, et cetera, reports findings, and assists the applicable manager or management team in the resolution of said issues.
· Audits drivers’ logs and report findings to VP of HR & Safety, Operations team, and applicable drivers.
Requirements and Qualifications
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field.
· One year of experience as an HR assistant preferred.
· Prior related office experience preferred.
· Exposure to labor law and employment equity regulations.
· Effective HR administration and people management skills.
· Exposure to payroll practices.
· Full understanding of HR functions and best practices.
· Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office, and related business and communication tools.
· Works well under pressure and meets tight deadlines.
· Meticulous attention paid to detail.
· Ability to accurately follow directions.
