The Wurzak Hotel Group, currently has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Sales within its dual-branded property, The Dalmar, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, (209 rooms) and The Element Hotel (114 rooms) in Fort Lauderdale. Situated in the beautiful and vibrant downtown Fort Lauderdale market, The Dalmar is a four star independent boutique property and The Element is an extended stay hotel. We are actively looking to meet the best and brightest talent that the hospitality industry has to offer with a proven record of leadership with excellent experience in assessing and developing high performance teams that deliver strong top and bottom line results.

The Director of Sales, reporting to the Managing Director, is responsible for the Sales function of the hotel; directing the development and implementation of strategic sales and marketing plans, interacting with clients, directing solicitation efforts, securing business, operating information management systems, preparing and presenting statistical and performance reports while striving to exceed all guest and client expectations. The Director of Sales is responsible for maximizing the occupancy and the average daily rate of the hotel, while upholding excellent guest service and accommodations to all guests. This position will work closely with the hotel’s preferred accounts and group reservations. The professional we seek will inspire and motivate the hotel’s sales, catering, and convention services teams to meet and or exceed predetermined booking goals quarterly / annually.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and implements sales plans to accommodate corporate goals.
  • Directs sales forecasting activities and sets performance goals accordingly.
  • Reviews market analyses to determine customer needs, price schedules, and discounted rates.
  • Directs staffing, training, and performance evaluations to develop and control sales program. Holds weekly meetings with sales staff to review quotas, goals, and incoming groups/meetings.
  • Directs promotional and marketing development and coordinates sales for targeted markets.
  • Schedules all trade shows, missions, and blitzes, assigning appropriate sales representative or self.
  • Assigns sales territories, quotas, and goals to sales representative.
  • Supervises advertising schedules and ad developments for all markets of property.
  • Represents company at trade association meetings to promote hotel, including attending trade shows and conventions.
  • Delivers sales presentations to key clients in coordination with sales representatives.
  • Meets with key clients, assisting sales representatives with maintaining relationships as well as negotiating and closing deals.
  • Analyzes and controls expenditures of sales department to conform to budgetary requirements.
  • Prepares periodic sales report showing sales volume, weekly sales reports, and market segment tracking report.
  • Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from ad inquires, trade shows, direct mail response, business and trade journals as well as other sources.
  • In charge of all tour operator contracts. Responsible for developing, maintaining, and growing this market segment for the hotel.
  • Makes outbound lead follow up calls to potential and existing customers by telephone and in person to qualify leads and sell hotel services.
  • Handles inbound sales lead calls to convert calls into sales.
  • Formulates and implements plans for soliciting business.
  • Respond to guest requests, concerns and problems to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Any other tasks/duties as requested by management.

Education and Experience

  • Four-year college degree in hospitality management, marketing, business, or related degree; or, equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of hotel industry sales related experience, demonstrating progressive career growth, and a pattern of exceptional performance.
  • Ability to travel locally and overnight.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with demonstrated ability in hotel sales.
  • Experience in managing budgets, revenue proposals, as well as forecasting results and revenue management.
  • Experience of building and managing a team.
  • Experience with customer, travel agency, and tour operator distribution channels and networks knowledge as well as international relationships.
  • Knowledge in the retail and wholesale tourism and travel industry.
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively manage and motivate the team to achieve a high level of performance and exceed targets.
  • Accountable and resilient, with an ability to work under pressure.
  • Flexibility to respond to a range of different work situations.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Committed to delivering high levels of customer service.
  • Professionally represent the hotel in community and industry organizations and events.
