VIRGINIA INDUSTRIES INC is Hiring a Mechanic Near Fredericksburg, VA

Summary Lubricate machinery, change parts, or perform other routine machinery maintenance. These duties are to be performed within safety, quality, and production standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned that pertain to this classification.

  •  Trouble shoots machinery and performs necessary adjustments to keep it operational.
  • Clean machines and machine parts, using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, or other equipment.
  • Collaborate with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment.
  • Collect and discard worn machine parts and other refuse in order to maintain machinery and work areas.
  • Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
  • Inspect or test damaged machine parts, and mark defective areas or advise supervisors of repair needs.
  • Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications.
  • Read work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Reassemble machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
  • Record production, repair, and machine maintenance information
  • Start machines and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
  • Transport machine parts, tools, equipment, and other material between work areas and storage, using cranes, hoists, or dollies.
  • Set up and operate machines, and adjust controls to regulate operations.
  • Performs inspections to assure compliance with regulations.

Education and Experience:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Prior mechanical experience, manufacturing experience preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Design- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

 Skills:

  • Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Repairing- Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Operation and Control - Controlling operations of equipment or systems.

 Abilities:

  •  Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Arm-Hand Steadiness - The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Oral Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Visualization- The ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged.

 Standing, stooping and squatting can be expected along with repetitive lifting or with other means transfer of tooling, parts, containers and raw materials weighing up to 35 pounds. Work on ladders at heights up to 60 feet. Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to focus.

 The performance of this position normally requires exposure to a typical manufacturing areas that require the use of personal protective equipment: Steel toed shoes, Safety Glasses, PAPR, Face shield, gloves, and hearing protection.

 Primary environment: Temperature of work area may be affected by outside temperatures and machining. Short term exposure of temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Industrial lighting provided.
