Summary

To be a visible leader and active participant in driving B&T to zero injuries. Under the direction of and collaborating with the Chief Engineer this role is accountable for leading a step change improvement in B&T’s quality systems and processes. B&T has the objective of ISO 9001 certification and maintaining the system with zero major findings going forward. It is expected that quality and metallurgical team by engaging all team members will improve customer satisfaction, process control, and capture improved profit This position will initially focus on leading a cross-functional team to achieve ISO 9001 certification. As part of the QC s process, the Quality team will be partner with manufacturing in problem solving initiatives that drive employee engagement and results. on continuous process improvement aimed at increasing productivity and quality while reducing non-valued activities, ultimately focused on cost reduction and maximizing profit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned that pertain to this classification.

  • Be a visible example of safety leadership on the shopfloor.
  • Achieve ISO 9001 certification by leading the integration of quality into how B&T runs the business.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools and methodology in the implementation of manufacturing quality excellence initiatives.
  • Introduce and manage different quality related tools like CAR/PAR, AVO, NCR reports.
  • Generate and manage regular quality related production KPI.
  • Review existing practices and design new practices/procedures to ensure quality of the design, development, testing and implementation of all of our foundry process.
  • Troubleshoot quality related process issues with an eye toward systematic improvements.
  • Assist in the root cause analysis of internal process to avoid escapes to customers.
  • Through process control make investigating Quality Complaints from customers a rare event and the development of action plans to prevent reoccurrence
  • Perform root cause analysis on all customer complaints using different RCA methods like, 5 Whys, Fishbone and more.
  • Provide input to Advance Sales Engineers for any customer quality issues, whether external or internal.
  • Coordinate the dissemination of product and process quality data for other departments to insure appropriate information flow, via Reports, Visual Management Boards, etc.
  • Ensure evaluation of, and reporting on, vendor quality systems.
  • Perform regular vendor/supplier audits for quality control management.
  • Generate and manage quality control plan on all raw materials, finish products and outsourced products.
  • Investigate operational problems affecting quality production and make recommendations for solutions.
  • Conduct periodic management review meetings. Report to top management on the performance of the QMS (e.g., results of quality audits, corrective actions), including the need for improvement.
  • Manage regular calibrations on all quality control instruments throughout the plant and keep up to date.
  • Must have a bias to time on the shop floor vs. time at the desk.
  • Manage the quality technicians on plant.

Education / Experience:

  • S. Mechanical or Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering or college degree with 7 years working in manufacturing in Quality Engineer/Manager role required.
  • Proven track record and working knowledge in foundry industry preferred.
  • Must be certified quality engineer or have had demonstrated experience leading a plant through the ISO 9001 certification process.
  • Multi-tasking skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while consistently delivering quality work
  • Solid time management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to take direction and responsibility for projects.
  • Self-starter able to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality, detailed work independently, highlighting key risks, and design dependencies to technical teams.
  • Communication with cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to make data-driven decisions. 

Knowledge:

  • Quality- Quality System at expert level
  • Lean / Continuous Improvement - Good knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Statistical Process Control, Six sigma
  • Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Design- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Repair - Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of equipment.

Standing, stooping and squatting can be expected. Lifting or with other means transfer of tools, instruments, containers, and raw materials weighing up to 40 pounds. Climbing of stairs and ladders. Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to focus.

The performance of this position normally requires exposure to a typical manufacturing areas that require the use of personal protective equipment: Steel toed shoes, Safety Glasses, PAPR, Face shield, gloves, Arc Flash Equipment and rated clothing and hearing protection.

Primary environment: Temperature of work area may be affected by outside temperatures and machining. Short term exposure of temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Industrial lighting provided.
