The Department of Chemistry seeks a post-doctoral fellowto join our team on an NSF-funded collaborative research project that aims tohelp students develop professional skills in their STEM classrooms by designingand implementing a scalable digital platform, SkillBuilder, based on existingELIPSS skill rubrics (ELIPSS.com). The SkillBuilder web application will beused in classroom assessment efforts to provide students with actionable andscalable feedback on transferable skill development including critical thinking,communication, teamwork, and problem solving. 

Position Responsibilities:

The post-doctoral fellow willwork closely with all members of the project team and primary collaborators atten additional institutions to optimize feedback and assessment strategiesacross a broad range of STEM fields. Over the life of the project, the primaryresponsibilities of the post-doctoral fellow will be to:

1. Assist in the developmentand facilitation of training modules and professional development workshops tosupport instructors in the use of the Skillbuilder Application tool
2. Assist in guidinginstructors in implementation options through consultations and ongoing support
3. Assist in IRB acquisitionas needed for instructors who agree to collect student data for researchpurposes
4. Collect and analyzefeedback from instructors on classroom utility and feedback strategies
5. Manage data collection andanalysis from participating STEM instructors
6. Conduct focus groupinterviews with instructors and students
7. Participate incollaborative project meetings, present research at conferences, and preparemanuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.

The project leadership includesSuzanne Ruder (Virginia Commonwealth University) and Juliette Lantz (DrewUniversity). The start date is negotiablebetween May and August 2024; funding for this position is available for up to21 months. The post-doctoral fellow will work with the PI’s on thiscollaborative grant, but will be affiliated with VCU, with the possibility forremote work.
Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a STEM field, discipline-based education research, science education, or a related field. A demonstrated ability to work/collaborate with others.
Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: conducting STEM education research; classroom assessment strategies; strong oral and written communication skills, obtaining Institutional Review Board approval.

Salary Range: $47,476 - $48,000
