Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic andtalented Communications Strategist to join our School of Population Health. Asa key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in crafting andexecuting effective communication strategies to promote the school'sinitiatives, research, and achievements. The ideal candidate will have apassion for public health, exceptional communication skills, and a creativemindset to engage diverse audiences.
The Communications Strategist hasprimary responsibility for planning and creating the school’s communications,including developing brand messaging and writing/editing across multiplechannels and formats. The Communications Strategist works collaboratively withinternal and external stakeholders and serves as the primary staff writer forinternal and external communications including, but not limited to, web sitecontent, blogs, brochures, newsletters, research reports, press releases,annual reports, presentations and social media posts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties that occupy a major portion oftime and importance in the job):
Content Creation
Develop compelling content forvarious platforms, including website, social media, newsletters, and pressreleases. Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and administrators to gatherinformation and showcase the school's achievements, research findings, andevents.
Write and edit a broad array of organizational communications including, butnot limited to, web and other news stories, blogs, executive communications,brochures, newsletters, annual reports and presentations.
Participate in research projects by contributing writing and editing support tofinal unit reports and peer-reviewed publications (approximately 10% ofportfolio)..
Promote relevant SPH, campus, university and health system events andprograms..
Social and Digital Media
Manage and grow the school'ssocial media presence across platforms. Create and implement social mediacampaigns to highlight key messages and engage with the community.
Support bi-directional communication by monitoring and responding to social mediaposts, emails etc.
Internal Communications
Facilitate effective internalcommunication by disseminating important updates, announcements, andinformation to staff, faculty, and students.
Collaborate with variousdepartments to ensure consistent messaging.
Event Promotion
Coordinate the promotion ofschool events, conferences, and seminars.
Develop marketing materials andpromotional content to attract participants.
Required Hiring Standards:
Bachelor's degreein Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field or equivalentexperience
Proven experiencein communications, preferably in an academic or healthcare setting.
Excellent writtenand verbal communication skills.
Strong socialmedia management skills.
Ability to work collaborativelyand build positive relationships.
Creativity andinnovation in developing communication strategies.
Knowledge ofpublic health topics is a plus.
Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
