Part-Time Bus Driver - Weekends

The Village of Niles is seeking an experienced candidate for the part-time position of Bus Driver for the courtesy bus service the Village proudly offers to all Niles residents. Niles Bus Drivers are important faces of Village services; therefore, high-quality customer service skills are essential. This position reports to the Transportation Manager in the Public Works Department. Bus Drivers are responsible for providing safe and courteous transportation to the public on an assigned bus route. Bus Drivers must adhere to PACE policies and guidelines. Works primarily on weekends.

Essential Job Functions Include:

· Daily pre-trip inspection of assigned bus to ensure cleanliness and report any safety or maintenance problems;

· Exercise continual defensive driving techniques;

· Constant monitoring of passenger’s behavior to minimize bus incidents/accidents;

· Communicate with the public in a courteous and helpful manner;

· Accurately tally the number of passengers boarding the bus;

· Complete assigned bus routes in a safe, timely fashion;

· Practice safety in all tasks and adhere to applicable federal, state and Village safety regulations;

· Must pass training and route orientation requirements.

Requirements and Conditions:

· Driver’s License abstract required. Driving record must be in good standing for five (5) years or more;

· Valid CDL Class B License with passenger and airbrake endorsement required;

· DOT card and ability to pass DOT physical required;

· This is a light duty position with the need to lift 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds;

· Subject to noise, environmental conditions and vibrations;

· Requires constant driving and ability to hear emergency vehicles and passengers in need of assistance;

· Visual acuity is critical for safety of bus and passengers;

· Hours are flexible, with an average of 15-18 hours per week, works primarily on weekends.
