JOB DESCRIPTION: Public Works Operator, Village of Middleport, Ohio

POSITION TITLE: Water/Sewer Operator

An employee in this classification will be required to perform duties as related to water, sewer, streets, and other Public Works Departments. Typical examples are: daily rounds for water and sewer departments, making repairs to water and sewer lines, water meter shut offs and reconnects, new water/sewer tap installations, cutting and weed eating grass, patching roads, brush and branch chipping, park maintenance, assist other public works employees with work orders and other manual tasks as deemed necessary. This employee may perform custodian work and other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.

• Must have a valid Driver’s License

• Must pass a criminal background check, driver’s record check, drug screen and provide character references.

• Possess, or must be willing to obtain, within 24 months of hire, an Ohio EPA Class I, Water Supply or Wastewater Treatment Operator License

HOURS AND RATE OF PAY: Public Works Water/Sewer Operator is a full-time position of a minimum of 40 hours per week. However, additional hours and “on call time” will be required. Rate of pay shall be determined by qualification and experience.

POSITION SUMMARY: The position of Operator is created by authority of Village of Middleport and shall include the qualifications, duties and responsibilities as outlined below:

• Reasonable knowledge of work methods and equipment involved in public works construction and maintenance.

• Reasonable mechanical knowledge and ability in operating tools and equipment.

• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral directions.

• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse conditions.

• Ability to work independently without constant supervision in accomplishing assigned duties.

• Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees.

• Ability to adapt and improve methods and procedures in performing assignments.

SUPERVISION: Public Works Operator shall be under the general supervision and control of the Public Works Crew Leader and/or Village Administration.

RESIDENCY: The Public Works Operator need not be a resident of the Village of Middleport.
