Village Management Services is Hiring a Recreation Supervisor Near Laguna Woods, CA

JOB SUMMARY:

Under direction, plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises all social, educational and recreational activities for a clubhouse; performs related work as required.

Supervision is exercised over Coordinators, Specialists and Leaders engaged in clerical, and clubhouse set-up work. Work may involve regular contact with residents, clubs, Saddleback College instructors, other departments, divisions and residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, organizes, supervises and participates in a variety of clubhouse social, educational and recreational programs/activities. Confers with the Manager concerning objectives, new or revised policies, operating problems and matters affecting other departments or divisions; and plans and implements new programs or procedures in accordance with established objectives.
  • Develops work programs and schedules. Plans and supervises the development of department training and safety programs. Selects and evaluates employees. Provides feedback to employees throughout their review period.
  • Prepares annual budget proposals and administers approved budgets. Supervises and participates in the maintenance of records and preparation of related reports and plans work schedules and approves all time submitted.
  • Work responsibilities are directly related to the level of the clubhouse activities.
  • Regular attendance required. All duties performed on-site for the Community.
  • Works with residents and representatives of resident organizations to plan uses of clubhouse facilities. Assists in planning community wide events, works with the Bar Coordinator, caterers and others involved in serving clubhouse functions.
  • Plans, assigns, schedules and supervises facility maintenance work and activities for the Recreation Department; prepares and maintains varied work order records and reports on repairs for the GRF facilities. Resolves a variety of difficult maintenance problems through personal conferences.

Supervisor performs the following functions as applicable:

  • Coordinates bar requests from clubs, private parties and Recreation Supervisors for all recreation facilities. Maintains liquor inventory at all clubhouse facilities and submits monthly usage report to accounting; deposits income from liquor sales and bills individuals or Community Clubs for use of the bar service; maintains liquor licenses at clubhouses facilities and stays updated with current liquor laws and regulations; coordinates the scheduling of bartenders for resident functions and recreation events at all clubhouse facilities. Confers with the Recreation Director regarding bar related issues.

Supervisor performs the following functions at Clubhouse IV:

  • Coordinates the use of Clubhouse IV with resident volunteer supervisors and individual residents. Checks resident and guest eligibility for facility use. Helps coordinate and set-up the annual Arts and Crafts Bonanza, and various other events held at Clubhouse IV.
  • Works closely with the Saddleback Emeritus Program and their related staff and students. Inspects Clubhouse IV equipment for safety. Assigns proper staff to make repairs on equipment. Works with residents and representatives of resident organizations in planning uses of Clubhouse IV.
  • Loads and fires Clubhouse IV’s electric kilns to appropriate temperature for slip casting and unloads when cool. Works with Ceramics Lab Technician on the gas fired kilns to discuss and resolve difficult or unusual service problems with residents or refers more complex complaints to the manager and notes disposition.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate Degree, including major course work in recreation. Considerable experience in a leadership role in a recreation agency or equivalent combination of education and experience which produces the following:

  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public recreation.
  • Knowledge of a variety of recreational and cultural activities for adult age groups.
  • Knowledge of human behavior as applied to adult groups participating in recreational activities.
  • Knowledge of current laws regarding the sales of wine and spirits (as applicable).
  • Ability to work with groups of senior citizens in recreational activities.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate records and reports.
  • Ability to write and speak effectively.
  • Ability to relate to the needs and concerns of senior citizens.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license
