This responsibility will include design, analysis and testing to optimize the electronic module design. The focus of the position will be the environmental sealing of electronic modules. This will include dispensed sealants, laser/vibration welding and fixed gasket designs. This position requires a technical person strong in automotive product development from concept through high-volume production launch with experience in plastics, aluminum castings and stampings.Major ResponsibilitiesDevelopment of core and/or application specific mechanical requirements for automotive electronics.Develop mechanical hardware in compliance with Global Product Engineering Process (GPEP).Verify mechanical requirements at component and assembly level testing.Support rest of the functional disciplines with all aspects related to mechanical hardware.Perform complex work assignments requiring independent problem solving and decision making, requiring strong mechanical technical competencyWork assignments primarily involve senior/advanced level work and may mentor other mechanical engineers.Lead the planning, scheduling, monitoring and reporting of all mechanical related activities for various projectsCoordination of integration of core mechanical components into an application specific mechanical designSkills and CompetenciesSpecialist Knowledge:Comprehensive knowledge in mechanical design, development and testing of automotive electronic assemblies.Comprehensive knowledge of structural and thermal design methodologies.Knowledge in mechanical analysis techniques (first order through CAE).Knowledge in mechanical product development process.Methodological Knowledge:Comprehensive working knowledge in structured engineering approachWorking knowledge in development of reusable mechanical hardware in automotive environment.Troubleshooting and debugging skillsKnowledge of structured problem solving (8D) methods and/or techniquesKnowledge of mechanical design, simulation and testing techniques.QualificationsKnowledge and EducationBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Master’s preferred)Work Experience8 years’ relevant experience regarding the Responsibility / Activities (listed above) in serial development.
