ABOUT THE POSITION

Structural Bridge Engineer | Hybrid | New York, NY

VHB is seeking a Structural Bridge Engineer to join our dynamic and growing Structures group in the Northeast. In this position, you would assist and lead in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects from railroad to highway.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering design and detailing of highway, pedestrian and railroad bridges and other structures
• Assist in the field with bridge inspection
• Calculate quantities and develop construction cost estimates
• Prepare contract documents and design plans 

Skills and Attributes

• Must possess strong technical skills in bridge design and detailing of steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and timber bridges and other structures
• Ability to develop alternatives analyses, preliminary design reports, contract plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Self-motivated and willing to take responsibility
• Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality
• Effective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred) (1-2 years of experience can be substituted for a master’s degree)
• 5-8 years of professional structural design (transportation/bridge focus) experience required
• 8-11 years of professional structural design (transportation/bridge focus) experience preferred
• EIT required, NY PE license expected or ability to obtain within 6 months
• Successful completion of NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training a plus
• Familiarity with structural engineering software (AASHTOWare Bridge Design and Bridge Rating, LARSA 4D, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, Mathcad) 
• MicroStation, AutoCAD, and ESRI GIS software experience a plus

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $89,000-150,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education and experience.
