About the Role
Infrastructure Engineering Inc.'s (IEI) NYC Office seeks a Senior Bridge/Structural Engineer to lead the restoration of the iconic George Washington Bridge. You will lead the structural design team, contribute to the growth and development of an expanding department, and serve as the primary contact with clients on bridge/structural projects. Project work will focus primarily on bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation project-related structures for public agencies, including PANYNJ, MTA, NYCDOT, and NYCDDC. What You'll Do
- Responsible for the technical accuracy, competency of structural projects, and organization of project documents and files.
- Signs and seals assigned project documents.
- Lead the preparation of design computations, plans, specifications, and quantity and cost estimates.
- Conduct bridge inspections and prepare Bridge Condition Reports.
- Use various software and programs for structural analysis, design, and plan preparation.
- Provide constructability reviews and value engineering reviews.
- Monitors project delivery in relation to the contracted scope and fees. Promptly identifies client-requested out-of-scope services and works diligently with the client to secure additional compensation or limit efforts to the contracted scope of work while ensuring the client is aware of the limits of negotiated scope.
- Monitors clients' project delivery goals and proactively identifies issues and obstacles that may compromise or influence achieving such goals.
- Negotiate client contracts and develop scope, fees, and schedule.
- Coordinates with firm leaders to plan and secure the required technical and tangible resources for project delivery.
- Schedules internal and external project progress meetings with all disciplines and personnel to monitor project progress.
To Be Successful
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structural engineering is required.
- M.S. degree in Civil / Structural Engineering preferred.
- Active PE license in the State of New York or New Jersey.
- 6 years of experience in structural engineering is required.
- At least 3 years of specialized Bridge work experience is required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Proven leadership skills with engineering staff and organizations.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong team player in a multi-disciplinary environment who can work on and contribute to several projects simultaneously.

Physical Demands

Work Conditions
- Usually works in outside weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
- Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
- Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
- Sometimes needs to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
- IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with acceptable driver's record.

The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may Frequently work outdoors in various weather conditions, possibly for an extended period of time, depending on the assignment type. The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. The noise level on the construction site is often loud and may require hearing protection.
