Veterinary Referral Associates is looking for full time, Oncology Veterinary Technicians and Appointment Technicians in our busy veterinary referral and 24-hour emergency hospital in Gaithersburg, MD.

Our Oncology department enjoys a 4-day workweek.

Oncology Technicians work under the direction of our veterinary oncologist to educate and communicate with families, prepare patients for and administer chemotherapy, administer palliative treatment, collaborate with other medical teams to ensure the most comprehensive care for patients, and support/comfort the families of patients who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Ideal Candidate’s Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must have excellent phlebotomy skills
• Excellent communication and client service skills
• Ability to take initiative, follow direction and work in a team-oriented environment
• Must have sound decision making skills and be able to multi-task while working in an environment of stress
• Ability to safely and securely restrain animals using proper restraint techniques

Oncology Veterinary Technicians are responsible for, but not limited to:

• Placing Chemotherapy IV Catheters
• Drug calculations
• Safe Chemotherapy administration using the Phaseal system
• Hospitalized patient nursing care
• Advanced diagnostics: Ultrasounds and CTs
• Blood transfusions
• Client communication and education

Preference will be given to veterinary technicians with experience in specialty medicine, though we are willing to train the right person if they are highly motivated.

2 years’ experience as a veterinary technician is required.

RVT preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $35.00 per hour
