Position Specifics:

Reports to: Director of Preconstruction

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Ability to extensively understand engineered drawings, blueprints
  • Aptitude with computers, internet, MS Office, CAD
  • Previous experience estimating projects up to $3 million range
  • Experience using estimating software and spreadsheet design
  • Ability to travel, work extended hours and some weekends
  • construction management or related field preferred or 2 years of equivalent experience
  • Strong organizational, professionalism, verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time management skills and ability to multitask
  • Ability to work in an office and in the field in a fast paced environment
  • Possesses critical thinking skills and is attentive to detail

Purpose:

To estimate work required for particular public and private construction projects by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents. The construction estimator will estimate labor, material, equipment and time requirements in order to be able to compute the overall cost of a project.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and understand proposals, estimates, plans, specifications, permits, and related contract documents; analyzing labor, material, equipment, and time requirements.
  • Quickly and with precision perform quantity takeoffs, develop subcontractor work parameters and review pricing.
  • Draft accurate and well organized cost estimates for the entire scope of work according to standards and specifications.
  • Develop skills to communicate with general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors on a daily basis and learn to collaborate with engineers, municipalities, and project representatives.
  • Maintain continual communication with the customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Create project schedules.
  • Organize subcontractors quotations, negotiate to ensure quotes meet contract documents.
  • Meet with potential clients and professionals as required to discuss option for proposed services.
  • Provide and maintain unit pricing and database for material and labor costing.
