Vermont Day School is an independent PreK-8 school in Shelburne, Vermont. We are seeking an experienced, passionate and engaging Middle School Teacher to plan, develop and implement instruction in Math and STEM for a motivated group of students in grades 6, 7 and 8. For STEM, we are seeking a candidate interested in a project-based approach to learning. While prior experience is helpful, VDS will provide training and mentoring in project-based instruction. The VDS STEM curriculum incorporates specific scientific skills and concepts that align with the NGSS standards. The ideal candidate is interested in interdisciplinary learning and has knowledge about how to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of learners. There are opportunities for the STEM teacher to work collaboratively with other subject area teachers. In Math, students are taught by grade level to ensure they are appropriately challenged and continuously engaged. Class sizes are small, which allows teachers to develop a strong rapport with students and personalize learning. We strive to provide students with the mathematical tools to think and reason logically, analyze data and statistics, communicate effectively, and address real world challenges.Teachers are provided with a curriculum and also have flexibility to incorporate projects into Math which allow students to discover the usefulness of math in the world around them. As a member of the Middle School Faculty, the Math and Science teacher will work collaboratively with colleagues to foster a strong community of Middle School students. The Teacher will be involved with Middle School program elements, such as Study Hall, Electives and Outdoor Education.
