Job Description

Velocity is NOT your typical restoration shop. Our technicians work with all mostly new sheet metal in a climate controlled environment in a state-of-the-art shop. Instead of working with the same basic vehicles every day like in the collision environment, our team brings hot rod dreams to life. The dedication of our employees shows in the high-end work they produce.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mask and tape off areas of vehicles that are not to be painted.
  • Repair minor imperfections in vehicle surfaces, such as scratches and small dents, using appropriate tools and materials.
  • Mix paint colors according to specifications provided by the paint manufacturer.
  • Assist automotive painters in setting up and operating spray guns and other painting equipment.
  • Assisting the painting team with everyday duties including lifting, preparing, sanding, taping, masking & and cleaning of vehicles before being moved into the booth.
  • Apply primers and sealers as directed by automotive painters.
  • Clean and maintain painting equipment and work area.
  • Assist in buffing and polishing painted surfaces to achieve the desired finish.
  • Touch up paint as needed to correct any flaws.
  • Communicate effectively with automotive painters and other team members to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and respond to feedback to improve performance.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet production deadlines and quality standards.
  • Efficient and cost-effective manner when using all materials to maintain company standards.
  • Assisting other technicians in the completion of their prepping procedures when needed to keep the line moving and meet deadlines.
  • Fulfill all paint preparation processes for vehicles according to work order.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain a positive attitude with a focus on teamwork.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding the taping/masking process to protect adjacent panels from overspray.
  • Knowledge of painting techniques, tools, and materials used in automotive painting.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while working independently.
  • Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn and grow in the role.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from work daily.
  • Adhere to all health regulations and utilize all safety equipment.
  • Ability to maintain professional communications with managers, coworkers, and vendors.
  • Ability to work overtime evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is required.
  • Must have own tools.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in automotive collision or similar environment

Physical Demands (to include but not limited to)

  • Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks that may require bending, lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance, reaching overhead and below the knees, squatting, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
  • Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment
  • Frequently standing, sitting, and walking for long periods. 
  • Must be physically capable of being on your feet for 10-12 hours per day. 
  • Ability to work in hot or cold temperatures for long periods.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle.
