Job Details

Job Title: Linux Systems Administrator

Location: Onsite - Houston, TX 77051

We are seeking a skilled Linux Systems Administrator to join our dynamic team located south of Astrodome. As a key member of our IT department, you will play a crucial role in installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux operating systems to support our business-critical and development activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Configuration and Maintenance:

    • Install, configure, and maintain SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 12x (SLES) and Ubuntu Server 20x LTS.
    • Perform routine system maintenance, troubleshooting, and error resolution to ensure maximum uptime.
  • Optimization and Deployment:

    • Provide recommendations for system improvements, optimization, and deployment plans.
    • Coordinate and implement system upgrades and maintenance projects.
  • Security and Compliance:

    • Implement security best practices in system design and collaborate with security specialists to minimize vulnerabilities.
    • Coordinate security planning with management to ensure compliance.
  • Technical Support and Collaboration:

    • Provide technical support and guidance to developers and other administrators.
    • Collaborate with developers to resolve issues and answer technical questions related to server performance.
  • Documentation and Training:

    • Create documentation for system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
    • Provide training and guidance to team members.
  • Interoperability and Connectivity:

    • Facilitate AD/SMB interoperability and NFS and remote drive maps.
    • Monitor system performance through command line and SolarWinds to prevent slowdowns and crashes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of Linux Administration work experience.
  • Proficiency in SuSE, Ubuntu, or RedHat Linux, including design, operations, and troubleshooting.
  • Virtualization experience (VMware or Hyper-V).
  • Experience with Windows SAMBA/AD, NFS, Volume Management, and BASH Scripting.
  • Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, O365) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL, Exchange, SSL, or IIS is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SAN systems (Dell EMC, Synology, Pure) is a plus.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a group environment.

Availability:

  • Willingness to participate in nights and weekend projects as needed.

Other Duties:

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
