ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's North Carolina team is looking for a Senior Project Engineer - Highway Design to join our growing team. The selected candidate could sit in our Raleigh office.

VHB's Transportation group has earned a reputation as one of the preeminent traffic engineering and transportation planning teams in North Carolina. This position provides an opportunity to lead complex transportation projects for federal, state, and local government clients and play an important role in expanding and shaping the group.

Responsibilities

Assist with strategy for expansion of transportation services in North Carolina
• Monitor project financial performance
• Execute scope associated with project delivery for transportation design projects for all stages from feasibility studies to final PS&E packages
• Participate in professional organizations that promote relationships with clients and teaming partners
• Producing and delivering highway design projects from inception through the construction administration phase
• Pre-design project planning and technical task management
• Design of highways and roads including development of geometric layout, grading and drainage, working with utilities, and environmental permitting
• Managing the development of technical design and specification documents
• Develop new project opportunities, and prepare and manage proposal submissions

• Thorough knowledge of NCDOT policies and practices in project delivery is a plus
• Advanced knowledge of local and state regulations governing transportation design
• Software exposure: MicroStation/AutoCAD and Open Roads Designer is a plus

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering, transportation planning or similar discipline; M.S. degree in Civil Engineering preferred
• Years of experience can be substituted for education
• At least 8 years of professional transportation engineering experience, with experience working in the NC market
• NC Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Proven success in the transportation and/or state & local government market sectors
