The Valley County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting for Detention Deputies to perform important work in the safekeeping of detainees in the custody of the Sheriff at the county detention facility. We are looking for career-minded individuals who are interested in assisting in the protection of the citizens of Valley County through the secure, efficient, and professional supervision of detainees.
Typical Duties & Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include receiving and processing new arrivals to the detention facility, housing and supervising detainees in a safe and orderly environment, conducting security checks and other related activities, transporting and escorting detainees, and performing other related work.
This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in a long-term career. We will train you in how to become a Detention Deputy so that you can supervise and oversee detainees in a safe and professional manner. You can expect to work many different shifts, including day, night, or weekend shifts, and you can expect to be exposed to a wide variety of people with varying backgrounds and behaviors. And of course, you would need to be comfortable with the use of firearms and be physically able to restrain someone should the need arise.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should have a high school diploma or an equivalent, be able to deal with all types of behaviors and personalities in a fair and professional manner, be physically fit, and be willing and able to carry and use a firearm. New employees will also be required to be certified through the Idaho Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) academy within one year. As this is a law enforcement position, anyone interested will also undergo a stringent background screening including their criminal and previous work histories. And of course, anyone interested will need to pass a physical and a drug test.
