Job Summary:

Performs financial assessment of clients’ insurance and service funding needs via communication from clinic and facility staff requests. Ensures active insurance, valid referral authorizations and tier extensions and documents all actions in the necessary internal and external systems as required by policy and procedure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as a liaison between Revenue Cycle Management, Finance, and other agency departments in answering client and staff insurance questions for inpatient and outpatient locations.
• Respond to and resolve requests for insurance verification, including, but not limited to, urgent insurance eligibility issues, insurance updates and financial changes for all Medicaid, Medicare, Managed Care and Commercial private insurance for all services provided to Valley Cities clients.
• Collect, verify, track, and disseminate to clinic and administrative staff the financial information for non-Medicaid funded tiered cases, including verifying eligibility and identifying clients who require funding.
• Process waitlisted clients into non-Medicaid funded tiered cases as appropriate when availability is determined.
• Generate monthly Suspended Payment Reports and provide comparison to previous and current months to identify reinstatements and any needed eligibility and funding verifications.
• Track and renew all required outpatient insurance authorizations and work with Utilization Management Specialists to follow up on needed inpatient authorizations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:

• Associate degree or 5 years Patient Access experience in healthcare.

Experience:

• Demonstrated knowledge of all Insurance companies, HMO's, PPO's, Medicare, third party payers.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong knowledge of WA State Medicaid regulations.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must have experience in Insurance Verifications/Authorizations
• Ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely and proactive manner.

Other:

• Pass required background checks.
• Ability to work independently.

Schedule:

A financial counselor position is a deadline driven and fast paced that works in an office cubicle setting. The person working in this role must be able to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks. This role will interact with patients, families, and healthcare providers. An essential skill for the position is to provide excellent customer service. The work schedule for the position is Monday – Friday from 8:30am – 5:00pm. Discussion of schedules is encouraged during the interview process from both candidate and hiring manager.
