Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Music Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching music classes to elementary students and leading school productions.
Job Summary:
The overall responsibility of the K-4 Music Teacher is to plan, instruct and direct all K-4 music classes and chapels. The K-4 Music Teacher will lead corresponding concerts/productions/chapels and complete needed teacher duties on the Tempe campus. This role will also serve on the 7-8 Ministry Development teacher team for 5-8 chapels.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and grow the VCS Fine Arts program, including the planning and leading of productions and events during the school year
  • Teach rotating sections of music classes at the K-4 level
  • Assist with K-8 chapels
  • Connect with Fine Arts Director for K-12 alignment
  • Participate in student life on campus
  • Develop after school activities such as clubs, productions, summer camps
  • Display a deep knowledge of Music and teach it from a Biblical perspective
  • Display the ability to connect Biblical truth to students lives
  • Demonstrate a passion for ministering to students through teaching, counseling, encouragement, and mentoring
  • Maintain a healthy learning environment for the students in the classroom by using appropriate enforcement of student behavior rules
  • Attend professional development workshops provided by Valley Christian Schools
  • Exercise open and respectful communication with students, families, co-workers, and supervisors
  • Adhere to Valley Christian policies, procedures/processes and codes
  • Performs other related assigned duties

Requirements
Qualifications and Skills
  • Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is a consistent testimony among others
  • Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with our school
  • Agree to uphold Valley Christian's Statement of Faith as provided in this job posting
  • Must have adequate instrumental expertise in a wide variety of musical styles (classical, musical theatre, modern worship) as well as excel at: rhythmic stability, musicality, reading open score, and sight reading
  • Must have ability to lead production rehearsals
  • Must have the ability to design shows, events, and thrive on a team of artists
  • Must have an excitement about working with middle school and junior high students
  • Attain ACSI Standard Certification within three years of employment
  • Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Ability to multitask with organization
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Strong supervisory skills and leadership skills
  • Music/Fine Arts teaching experience
Preferred Skills
  • College/University degree in Fine Arts / Music Education
  • Prior experience preferred
Physical Requirements
  • Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods of time
  • Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
  • At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing stairs (2-story)
  • Use of hands, fingers, arms to reach, grip and maneuver objects
  • Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms)
  • Work in noisy and crowded school environment
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when needed
  • Frequent walking throughout the campus
  • Work around small children including sitting, standing, running and climbing stairs
  • Must be able to lift and carry small children up to 40 pounds in case of emergency
