Overview

Utah State University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) invites applications to fill a tenure track faculty position in structural engineering, with an emphasis on earthquake engineering. It is expected that this position will be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level; however, outstanding candidates will be considered at all levels. Applicants should have expertise in one or more of the following areas related to structural earthquake engineering: large-scale experimental testing, hybrid simulation, high performance computing, numerical modeling, performance-based earthquake engineering, community resilience, seismic assessment of complex infrastructure systems under compound earthquake and climatic hazards, probabilistic seismic hazard analyses and loss modeling, seismic retrofitting and rehabilitation, non-destructive evaluation, and soil-structure interaction. Professional registration and prior academic or practical experience are also desirable.Utah State University (USU) recently received $2.5M from the Utah legislature to initiate formation of the Utah Earthquake Engineering Center. This tenure-track position in structural earthquake engineering represents USU’s commitment to support the center, and the hired faculty member will be involved in selecting, installing, and operating the new equipment and facilities for the center. The structural engineering group at USU includes five tenured/tenure-track faculty with research interests in: infrastructure resiliency, earthquake engineering, fire engineering, multi-hazard (natural and human) risk assessment, low-carbon construction materials, and non-destructive testing and evaluation. The CEE Department also has unique experimental equipment and facilities, such as the Systems, Materials, and Structural Health (SMASH) Laboratory, which contribute to cutting-edge studies both in the laboratory and in the field. The successful applicant will contribute significantly to both the research and teaching efforts within the department and across the broader university community.

The search committee will begin considering applications on October 15, 2023, and continue until the position is filled. For full consideration, applications should be submitted prior to that date.
