Utah Jazz is Hiring a Mascot Assistant Near Salt Lake, UT

Come be a part of the Utah Jazz Game Presentation team as the beloved Utah Jazz Bear’s assistant. This is a unique opportunity to enrich lives and bring happiness to all Jazz fans. The Mascot Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of Jazz Bear during performances at Utah Jazz games, team events, and outside appearances. This position will report to the Director of Entertainment.

The Mascot Assistant must be organized, detail-oriented, comfortable speaking and interacting with fans, as well as possess the ability to solve problems within a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. The Mascot Assistant represents the Utah Jazz and the Utah Jazz Bear brand and must professionally represent oneself at all times.

This is a full-time, salaried position. In addition to standard office hours, this person will work a combination of all Utah Jazz home games, rehearsals, and outside appearances, which often occur on nights, weekends, and holidays. This position could potentially include the role of Buster the Bear, our G-league affiliate mascot. This is an in-person role in Salt Lake City, Utah.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • During Utah Jazz home games, ensure that all visits, timeouts, and all other Jazz Bear elements at games are executed on time
  • Serve as the liaison between the community and Jazz Bear at home games and appearances
  • Interact with fans, including answering questions, taking pictures and videos, while protecting Jazz Bear
  • Assist with wardrobe, construct and prepare props used by Jazz Bear during appearances and games, including the cleaning and maintenance of costumes and other equipment
  • Coordinate and schedule internal and external appearances of Jazz Bear
  • Maintain timely response to all communication and requests
  • Accompany Jazz Bear to events and appearances
  • Attend in-person and/or virtual meetings concerning Jazz Bear as required
  • Assist with the ideation, organization, and facilitation of skits and stunts to be performed by Jazz Bear
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality
  • Observe crowd and the environment for any safety issues and respond appropriately as needed
  • Enrich lives by creating winning experiences and timeless memories
  • Assist with the capture and editing of content used on Jazz Bear's social media channels
  • Protect the reputation of the company
  • Exemplify the Utah Jazz mission and values: transparency, all in, community-obsessed, one team, and scrappy
  • Accept other duties, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to multitask
  • Perform well under pressure
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Reliable transportation to Delta Center
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and customer service orientation
  • Desire to work in the area of professional sports
  • Previous sports industry preferred
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office/G Suite
  • Proficient with basic construction tools and repairs
  • Basic video and music editing skills
  • Previous mascot experience preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This person must be able to communicate and express themselves both written and verbally
  • This person must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk, and climb stairs for long periods of time
  • This person must be able to lift 75 lbs
