Job Description

JJYS Technician II- Millcreek Youth Center

A Juvenile Justice Technician works to change young lives, support families, and keep communities safe in the following environments :

  • Detention;
  • Long Term Secure Care;

Multi-use facilities; and

Community-based programs.

Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS) provides a variety of delinquency prevention and rehabilitation programs designed to change young lives, support families and keep communities safe.

Utah Division of Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS)JYS provides a continuum of prevention, intervention, supervision and rehabilitation services and programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety.

Principal Duties

Work closely with youth ordered into the care and custody of JJYS

Monitor visitors and residents within the facility

Schedule and coordinate activities for the youth

Assist the Control Supervisor by making perimeter checks

Resolve potentially dangerous situations to ensure the safety of staff, clients, and or the public by applying appropriate intervention techniques to people, facilities and property

Within the first 90 days after hire, you will participate in one week of New Employee Training to introduce you to principles and practices used in our work with youth and families.

You will also participate in one week of verbal and physical de-escalation training to provide skills that will help you work with youth with challenging behaviors.

Provide a continuum of intervention, supervision, and rehabilitation programs to youth offenders while assuring public safety.

Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely in writing (read and understand information presented in writing)

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a candidate :

Who wants to be a part of a thriving team, focused on changing young lives, supporting families, and keeping communities safe.

Availability to work rotating shifts, days, swing, graveyard, weekends and holidays.

Preference

Candidates 19 years of age or older

Candidates with a high school diploma or GED

Candidates with lived experience in the juvenile justice or child welfare systems

Candidates that speak multiple languages

A valid Utah Driver's License

Supplemental Information

High risks in this job include physical intervention with clients in order to de-escalate hostile or volatile situations.

Work requires physical exertion and requires the ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.
