The Department of Information Resources (IR) Telecommunications and Network Infrastructure is seeking a Telecommunications Technician II join their team. In this role, you will manage and enhance the telecommunications infrastructure at UT Southwestern, ensuring robust and efficient communication systems through expert-level maintenance, troubleshooting, and innovative solutions. We are looking for someone with demonstrated ability to manage and excel in multi-platform telecommunications environments, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and project management, excellent communication skills, is capable of discussing technical details with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and leadership skills with a proven track record of managing teams and projects, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and task completion.
Minimum Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Work requires ability to read, write and resolve complex technical problems. Work requires ability to understand data networks and use digital test equipment. Work requires knowledge of fiber optic cabling. Work requires ability to use light meters, OTDR test equipment data scopes, patch panels, modems, concentrators, call detail recording applications and equipment, various call routing applications, busy studies, network engineering, queuing theories and statistics. Work requires ability to determine approaches to work problems based upon specialized technical knowledge. Work requires telephone and personal contact with faculty and staff to coordinate resolution of system problems. Work requires telephone and personal contact with affiliated hospitals, clinics, equipment vendors, and maintenance personnel to coordinate resolution of problems or installation of specialized equipment. Work requires ability to stand for long periods of time and/or lift up to 50 pounds. Work requires ability to analyze, organize, and effectively present data to management. Work requires ability to coordinate people and other resources to resolve system problems.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily indoors and involves occasional exposure to elements, such as electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, constant noise, and dust mite hazards.
