Job Summary

The Green Center for Reproductive Biology Sciences at UT Southwestern mission is to promote and support cutting-edge, integrative, and collaborative basic research, with a focus on signaling, gene regulation, and genome function. The Green Center fosters an environment of innovation, teamwork, and professionalism. 

The Solmonson lab is looking for a motivated and organized individual to support research projects related to developmental metabolism and placental biology. We have projects related to clinical research, mouse development, and trophoblast stem cell culture. We are a great place if you are looking to gain new skills and participate in interesting research.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required. 
  • Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
  • High school graduation or GED and four (4) years laboratory experience to include two (2) years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.

Lab Duties

  • General lab support by making solutions, dishwashing, autoclaving, cleaning, ordering/inventory/stocking of laboratory supplies, and generally ensuring smooth operations in the lab.
  • Assist PI and senior staff with maintenance, care, breeding and genomic screening of mice in laboratory mouse colonies.
  • Must coordinate activities with other lab personnel.
  • Ensures that lab personnel adhere to all biohazard control and laboratory safety protocols.
  • Assists with maintenance of lab inventories.
  • Assist lab members and PI with a variety of research projects involving molecular/biochemical approaches and mammalian/bacterial cell culture. 
  • Includes compilation and evaluation of data and other information for publications, as requested.
  • Assist with special lab management projects at the request of the PI. Includes organizing and sending reagents to other institutions, researching and testing equipment and protocols, organizing lab group activities.

Job Duties 

  • Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
  • Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor. Assists in collection of data for project reports.
  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
