USNA Alumni Association & Foundation is Hiring a Digital Communications Coordinator Near Annapolis, MD

The Digital Communications Coordinator plans and produces content intended to uphold and advance the missions of the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation across a wide range of channels, with a particular focus on the organization's digital content including social media, photos, videos, e-newsletters, and website.

The Digital Communications Coordinator is an exempt, full-time professional reporting to the Director of Digital Communications and serves as an integral member of a larger Communications team. This position will collaborate with colleagues throughout the Communications Department, and across the organization including information systems, fundraising, engagement, and finance operations. The Communications Coordinator will also develop strong working relationships throughout the Naval Academy, partners of the Naval Academy, and members of the alumni and parent community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the organization's social media channels, most notably Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube
  • Produce and edit original written, video, and other content; sourcing appropriate existing content; and monitoring metrics while proposing additions and innovations to current channels and exploring new opportunities
  • Coordinate and manage outside photography and videography services for alumni events
  • Serve as managing editor and primary writer for the organization's flagship e-newsletter WaveTops, distributed monthly to an audience of more than 80,000
  • Assist with development and production of e-newsletters targeted to Naval Academy parents, donors, and other audiences
  • Contribute original content and assist with updates to usna.com under the direction of the Assistant Director of Communications
  • Monitor all public-facing media channels for coverage of the Naval Academy and Naval Academy alumni community
  • Assist with the creation and distribution of the organization's e-mail communications to alumni, parents, and other partners
  • Support organization programs and events as needed, most notably with video collection, editing, and production

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • One or more years of relevant, full-time experience in journalism, corporate communications, or non-profit communications
  • Exemplary written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience with social media, photography, and video production
  • A strong portfolio of published/public work
  • Familiarity with content management systems and ability to efficiently master new platforms
  • Familiarity with digital media analytics and analysis
  • Sound editorial judgment, initiative and problem-solving ability
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects in a deadline-driven, detail-oriented environment.
  • Appreciation for teamwork and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in planning and executing projects
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite products with the capacity to learn systems unique to the organization
  • Enthusiasm for the Naval Academy and USNA Alumni Association and Foundation missions and a willingness to learn more about their distinctive histories
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and attend events in the evening and on weekends as needed
