Description

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the supervision and reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Engineering Project Coordinator provides mechanical engineering and design services relating to a wide variety of company products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Provide structural design services to design a wide variety of company products.
  • Provide documentation of structural designs for review by consulting engineers.
  • Establish and maintain familiarity with building construction designs and methods.
  • Establish and maintain familiarity with state building codes, Underwriter's Laboratory, ETL and various states' building regulations regarding modular buildings.
  • Communicate with customers, sales representatives, contractors, consulting engineers, and vendors concerning product design issues at each state of the product development process. Communicate with the manufacturing function, answer questions and provide technical advice while products are being built.
  • Provide submittal materials for customer review and approval.
  • Create product design drawings and Bills of Materials to guide the manufacturing department in producing company products. Employ the ERP computer system to establish Bills of Materials, requiring extensive knowledge of this manufacturing software.
  • Represent the company at seminars, trade shows, and marketing related functions.
  • Employ the AutoCAD CAD computer system to create drawings and designs. Employ the company drawing storage and retrieval system to manipulate and store drawings.
  • Attend training classes and/or seminars to improve engineering and design related skills.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

Requirements

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: The employee must wear safety glasses and hardhat when working in proximity to production equipment or on a job site.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires a 4-year degree or 3-5 years of relevant experience in engineering and product design techniques.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, vendors, contractors, and customers relating to product design issues.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and proportions. Ability to apply engineering concepts and perform engineering calculations relating to product design.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Requires the ability to operate a variety of office equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, telephone, facsimile machine, and photocopier.
