Upward Bound

Hiring RAs for our 2024 Residential Summer Program at USC!

Program Dates: June 5-July 19, 2024 (In person)

The Upward Bound Summer Program is an intense six week academic, social, and cultural experience for high school students from 5 LAUSD high schools. The goal of our summer program is to assist first-generation, college-bound high school students to prepare and succeed in postsecondary education by introducing them to college credit courses.

This summer, Upward Bound is looking to hire 6 RAs to assist the UB staff while program participants take college credit courses and live at the USC dorms during the summer. RA’s will live in the dorms with students, monitor student behavior, and serve as tutors and mentors. We are looking for RAs who are committed to our students’ success and equal access to higher education. TRiO alumni and other college access program participants are encouraged to apply.

• Provide leadership and direction to UB students

• Develop supportive relationships with students through mentoring/advising on academic, personal, and college and career goals

• Assist in maintaining a positive and safe environment that promotes appreciation of diverse cultures, traditions, lifestyles, and student beliefs

• Monitor and report student progress and behavior to UB staff including program director and program coordinators

• Conduct wake-up calls and lights out rounds in the residence halls

Qualifications

• Must be currently be attending a four-year university

• Must have finished sophomore year by May/June 2024

• Available to work in summer from Sunday through Thursday (& some weekends)

Starting Rate: $18/hour (32-40 hrs. per week)
