US Securities and Exchange Commission is Hiring a SUPERVISORY CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR Near Washington, DC

Duties

  • Serves as the IG's representative in investigations involving other SEC and interagency investigations;
  • Manages all OIG investigative activities, ensuring that investigations are pursued, documented, and finalized in accordance with laws, regulations, standards, and the policies of the Inspector General;
  • Ensures cost effectiveness of investigations and supporting functions including implementing and maintaining a case management system (CMS), the IG Hotline, and other avenues for reporting suspected instance of fraud, waste, and abuse; coordinates on the design, modification of, and training in the use of the CMS, and ensures input is complete, accurate, and timely.
  • Maintains close and cooperative relationships with senior prosecutors, law enforcement partners and senior officials at other organizations participating in or affected by OIG investigations;
  • Coordinates planning and operations of investigations and maintains open communications and provision of timely and accurate responses to inquiries from participating and/or affected organizations;
  • Represents the agency in high level meetings, conferences, and presentations involving a wide range of participants such as regulatory or law enforcement agencies; state, local, national, or international government offices; the media; private industry; and the academic community.

  • DRUG TESTING: This position may be subjected to drug testing requirements.
  • PERMANENT CHANGE OF STATION (PCS): Moving/Relocation expenses are not authorized.
  • DIRECT DEPOSIT: All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.
  • This position is not in the collective bargaining unit.
  • This position is eligible to request telework in accordance with the SEC 's telework policy.
  • Existing Participants in the SEC’s Remote Telework Program are eligible to apply for this position. If selected, management will evaluate and communicate whether the position will allow for continued participation in Remote Telework.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • Training Requirement: You must have successfully completed a basic law enforcement training program such as the Criminal Investigator Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, or military or other equivalent.
  • Age Requirement: There is a maximum entry age of the day before your 37th birthday (excluding preference eligible veterans) for entry into law enforcement office positions. This position is covered by the special retirement provisions for Federal Law Enforcement Officers [5 U.S.C. 8336(c) or 5 U.S.C. 8412(d)] and have a mandatory retirement age of 57. If you are over age 37, you must have been or currently be covered by the special retirement provisions and be able to complete at least 20 years of covered service by age 57.
  • Physical/Medical Requirement: The selectee may have to pass a pre-appointment physical examination and meet the physical requirements for this position as required by this agency. Performance of the required duties of this position requires moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that the incumbent may perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, glasses permitted, must be acute for reading of printed materials the size of typewritten characters. The ability of incumbent to hear the conversational voice and whispered speech is required. Any hearing impairment may be compensated for use of a hearing aid. Since the duties of the position are exacting, responsible and involve work performed under arduous and dangerous conditions, the incumbent must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition which would cause the applicant to be a hazard to him/her or to others, will disqualify him or her. Work may involve physically restraining others and defending oneself or others against physical attack.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement.
SK-17: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-14 grade level. Specialized experience includes all of the following: supervises or oversees and coordinates on-going investigations (i.e., criminal, civil and administrative) of government programs and operations where complex financial frauds were committed against the Government. In addition, provides direction to the staff and ensures documentation is accurate and updated to include making sure the regulations, laws and rules have been followed.
