The duties and responsibilities of a Language Access Program Specialist generally include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Leads high-level policy and program activities that include developing, coordinating, and implementing comprehensive initiatives across ATJ, the Department, and other federal agencies.
  • Serves as a language access senior advisor and subject matter expert (SME).
  • Advises the Language Access Coordinator and ATJ senior leadership on the long-range implications of new developments, innovations, emerging needs and trends in the organization and development of the ATJ language access program.
  • Leads the coordination and preparation of communications, trainings, and listening sessions with internal and external stakeholder groups.
  • Conducts research that informs the integration of language access policies and practices across DOJ and within ATJ.
  • Develops and recommends solutions to complex problems having national scope and applicability.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Language Access Program Specialist, (GS-0301-14), you must possess the required specialized experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-14, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Identifying needs, and measures, to improve language access policies or practices; 2) Delivering trainings, technical assistance, or instructional materials regarding language access programs; and 3) Partnering with internal and external stakeholders to implement measures to improve language access.

ATJ's Language Access Program is dedicated to breaking down the barriers that prevent those who communicate in a language other than English, including sign languages, from reporting a crime, understanding their rights, navigating a court process, and from other interactions with DOJ. This position will serve as a Language Access Program Specialist for ATJ, a member of the Language Access Team reporting to the Language Access Coordinator and, will participate in cross-cutting policy and program matters that involve language access issues.
Location Negotiable - **Remote work may be approved for applicants outside the Washington, DC commuting area; candidates located within the Washington DC locality area will be required to report to the worksite but may telework in accordance with agency policy.**
