US Military Treatment Facilities under DHA is Hiring a Security Guard Near Houston, TX

Duties

  • Perform access control duties at access control points, gates, parking, and traffic control during periods of congestion, limited access, construction, and/or VIP visits.
  • Actively observes the behavior of all persons in the vicinity; endeavor to detect suspicious or abnormal behavior; and stop, question, and detain persons when probable cause exists to do so.
  • Take immediate and appropriate action to ensure the safety and security of all staff, patients, visitors, facilities, and government owned property during emergency situations.
  • Exercise detention authority based on probable cause for felonies, misdemeanors, DoD/Army regulations and Command policies.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all staff, patients, visitors, and government owned property within the facility.
  • Conduct internal and external patrols of the hospital, satellite clinics, parking lots, and grounds.
  • Maintain an activity report to document shift activity.

Conditions of Employment

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
  • This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Position requires maintaining semi-annual Weapon Qualifications and annual Physical Agility Tests.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Refer to CHRA Info Paper 330-11-IP-01, Subject: Positions Restricted to Veterans, for additional information and specific job announcement requirements.
Specialized Experience: In order to qualify, your resume must demonstrate that you possess at least one year of specialized experience which includes providing armed guard services for the protection of life (employees, visitors, patients, etc.), performing access control to ensure the physical security of campus and facilities, and maintaining a shift activity log. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
