US Forest Service is Hiring a Support Services Specialist Near Fort Collins, CO

Duties

  • Provide expertise for the procurement of goods, supplies and services.
  • Purchase a variety of local supplies and services using a VISA credit card.
  • Keep employees informed of human resources policy and regulatory changes, such as those related to leave, injury compensation, retirement, and promotions.
  • Provide services to include budget, travel, procurement, property management, records management, liaison, training, and clerical services to support the Unit (or management).
  • Utilize a personal computer with various software packages to prepare reports, graphs, charts, and interoffice mail to complete tasks that have been automated.
  • Receive and route incoming correspondence such as mail, cables, faxes, routine and controlled documents to support unit communication needs.
  • Check spelling, grammar and format style of drafted correspondence to ensure clarity and coherence of documents.
  • Evaluate data and information gathered from invoices and receipts to update and balance the budget.
  • Establish annual operating budget by collecting data to analyze the cost of project proposals, staffing levels and procurement of goods and services needed to support the unit's objectives.
  • Arrange for the proper disposition of obsolete equipment or damaged property.
  • Advise Unit on applicable laws, regulations, and policies to accomplish administrative tasks.
  • Manage customer service program operations to ensure adherence to policy, implementation, regulations, and program delivery.
  • Serve as Collection Officer or similar position for the Unit.
  • Maintain Point of Sales System functionality, ensuring sales and deposits are accurate and adheres to policy requirements.

Qualifications

General Experience Requirement:
For the GS-05:
Applicants must have three years of progressively responsible general experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level. General experience is experience that involved dealing with others in person-to-person work situations, in obtaining and providing a variety of services for an organization, or other work that demonstrated the ability to perform successfully the work of the position to be filled.
OR
Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree, in an accredited college or university.
OR
Have a combination of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and general experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-06:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes meeting three or more of the following: Assembled monthly expenditures for operating budget reporting; Reviewed correspondence for format and grammatical accuracy; Purchased, received, and distributed supplies and special order items; Reconciled purchases in a database and monitored when additional supplies needed to be ordered.
OR
Have successfully completed one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of graduate level education directly related to the work of the position (i.e. Public Administration, Business Administration, or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled) and the education was obtained at an accredited college or university.
OR
Have a combination of graduate level education (i.e. Public Administration, Business Administration, or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled) and specialized experience.
For the GS-07:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes meeting four or more of the following: Assisted with customer service programs; Submitted unit personnel actions; Purchased, received, and distributed supplies and special-order items; Reconciled purchases in a database and monitored when additional supplies needed to be ordered; Assisted with property management support services (i.e., maintenance and disposal of equipment); Helped collect and track specialized data and records using databases and spreadsheets.
OR
Have successfully completed one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of graduate level education directly related to the work of the position (i.e. Public Administration, Business Administration, or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled) and the education was obtained at an accredited college or university.
OR
Have a combination of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (i.e. Public Administration, Business Administration, or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled) and specialized experience.
For the GS-08:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes meeting two or more of the following: Managed customer service programs, submission of unit personnel actions, purchased supplies, equipment, and services; Utilized automated systems, composed, typed, and proofread correspondence; Provided property management support services (i.e., maintenance and disposal of equipment), collected and tracked specialized data, and records (i.e., databases and spreadsheets).
OR
Have successfully completed two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of graduate level education or a master's degree related to the work of the position (i.e. Public Administration, Business Administration, or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled) and the education was obtained at an accredited college or university.
OR
Have a combination of graduate level education beyond 18 semester hours/27 quarter hours that is directly related to the position (i.e. Public Administration, Business Administration, or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled) and specialized experience.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
