Culinary Hospitality Outreach and Wellness is Hiring a Peer Support Specialist Near Fort Collins, CO

ExPOS Job Description

CHOW is seeking a compassionate certified peer supporter to assist and guide our members. In this role, you will be required to attend CHOW groups and respond to any emergencies as needed. This position also requires the knowledge of local and national resources to provide community-based resources.

Ours is a unique community of hospitality professionals. A year of work in the hospitality field is required. To ensure success as a CHOW peer supporter, you should be empathetic and possess exceptional interpersonal communication skills. An ideal peer support specialist should be able to easily identify warning signs in members and provide effective interventions and emotional support. In this role, it will be important to establish firm personal and ethical boundaries.

CHOW Peer Responsibilities:

  • Attending weekly CHOW meetings, virtual or in-person.
  • Documenting the number of attendees.
  • Allowing an extra 15 minutes after a meeting to give additional support to members, as needed.
  • Knowledge of local and national resources to assist members (Crisis, Unite Us, Detox, etc…).
  • Willingness to learn to use and understand health information technology, i.e. GPRA
  • Works with individuals and groups to provide personalized outreach, support, and education; introduces concepts of mental health, recovery, and wellness in hospitality settings.

CHOW Peer Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • CPFS or NCPS certification preferred.
  • At least one year in the hospitality industry.
  • Open minded and willing to accept all pathways to recovery.
  • Lived experience with mental health conditions, substance abuse, or trauma.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience with group meetings.
  • Highly compassionate and attentive to detail.

Additional Requirements:

  • Good knowledge or willingness to learn of recovery resources such as the 12 step program and community support groups.
  • Proficiency or willingness to learn, Office programs; especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Gmail, Google suite, and Zoom products.
  • Enhances professional growth and development by participating in relevant training as outlined by SAMHSA, CCAR, COPA etc.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: A pre-employment criminal background check may be conducted as part of the selection process, unless credentialed by State of CO. Special Conditions of Employment: Effective September 20, 2021, this position will require documented proof of full COVID-19 vaccination. Employees will be required to provide attestation to their status with proof of vaccination upon hire.
