JOB SUMMARY:

Under direction of the Chief Marketing & Content Officer, this position oversees logistics of all sport and social communications, serving as press officer at major events, and serving as the direct link between the USOPC and FEI communications and social media departments. This position is responsible for oversight of social media and communication strategies and plans including creation, distribution, management, and tracking of posts on the US Equestrian family of social media properties as well as press releases and media outreach. A primary responsibility of this position is traveling to events across the country and occasionally internationally to collect content and promote our championships and teams. In addition, this position manages at least four other staff members and may help coordinate the work of other staff within the Marketing department. Travel is approximately 20 – 30% of the year.

Sport Communications Duties and Responsibilities (60%):

  • Leads the development and execution of the overall sport and events communications strategy and plan, including mainstream media.
  • Expand current USEF coverage of equestrian sport in the United States.
  • Manages day-to-day sport communication to the media including responses during crisis situations.
  • Develop relationships with the USEF Sport Program staff, as well as with the Recognized Affiliate Association staff, to promote and market the respective Sports Programs.
  • Addresses all incoming media inquiries related to Sport.
  • Ensures integrated communication efforts across the organization’s platforms and departments.
  • Serve as press officer at designated events.
  • Supervise management of Media Centers at designated USEF Championship events
  • Coordinate with Sponsor Team on sponsor messaging and communication surrounding brands and events.
  • Develop relationships with journalists and photographers covering both National and International disciplines.

Social Media Duties and Responsibilities (40%):

  • Define and drive social strategy, voice and tone, channel guidelines, and goals for US Equestrian and USEF Network social channels.
  • Oversee all US Equestrian and USEF Network social media accounts on a day-to-day basis. Posting content to also support the team as needed.
  • Manage social media content calendar coordinating with other members of marketing.
  • Establish social media style guides and standards to ensure brand consistency in partnership with the Creative Director and the social team.
  • Curate and maintain active engagement with follower base, and develop social media campaigns (organic and paid) including budget planning, content strategy, implementation schedules, and event/live coverage.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of social media industry trends and assess potential for new social platforms and opportunities.
  • Oversee creation of unique content for social media accounts.
  • Provide monthly social media analytics and sponsor analytics reports as needed.
  • Assist with 24/7 monitoring and management of social platforms including comments and messages.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Exceptional member service is provided, and stakeholder relationships are enhanced.
  • Relationships with Directors and other staff are productive and promote a positive team environment.
  • Assistance is provided to other department members when needed.

Required, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Social media savvy and experience working in traditional communications media.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with shown experience in writing, editing, copywriting, and crafting content for social media.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills including tact and diplomacy to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Must have outstanding writing skills (i.e. spelling, grammar, proper formatting, proofreading, e-mail etiquette, etc.).
  • Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be calm under pressure, able to handle multiple projects at one time and meet tight deadlines.
  • Must have practical knowledge of the competitive sport horse industry.
  • Must have experience managing teams and working with executive leadership.
  • The ideal candidate will also have big-picture strategy skills and be an excellent team player.
  • Ability to work well independently.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Willing to learn new skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to travel approximately 20 – 30% of the year.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Some college preferred.
  • 5 years in the field preferred.
  • Social campaign experience, analytics reporting, and photography skills are preferred.
  • Experience with various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok, and Youtube, etc.)
  • Photography, video editing, and Photoshop experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent travel
  • Extended hours of availability, including evenings and weekends.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. (Anything over 25 pounds requires a two person lift)
