US Equestrian Fed is Hiring a Senior Content Editor Near Lexington, KY

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Chief Marketing & Content Officer, this position is responsible for the vision, day-to-day writing, assigning, and editing for USEF’s editorial content channels including US Equestrian magazine and original content articles for US Equestrian Weekly. This position will collaborate with the Chief Marketing & Content Officer to create and implement a content strategy to educate and engage members and fans, grow the digital and print media audience of USEF, and collaborate with a team of writers and editors leading them through the content creation process, and ensuring editorial standards are achieved and improved. The position will also oversee the budget and overall ROI on the magazine and develop a strategy for the future to maximize audience impact vs. investment overtime.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with the Chief Marketing & Content Officer to lead and deliver the US Equestrian Magazine which is published 5 times a year (1 digital and 4 print issues) and deliver Equestrian Weekly original content articles throughout the year.
  • Manage and grow a team of contributing writers and editors leading them through the content creation process.
  • Help develop and test digital content delivery platform to encourage engagement, long term success and ROI. Evolve the print/digital strategy overtime to best meet member needs.
  • Ensure editorial standards are achieved and improved.
  • Makes and/or implements editorial decisions concerning the content of the publication.
  • Uses word processing software and text management systems to write, edit and prepare copy for original editorial and sponsor content.
  • Edits publications according to organizational specifications for style, tone, and length while ensuring correct use of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Works with writers and USEF creative director to select and finalize artwork, photography, and text for reproduction.
  • Ensures that articles, manuals, proposals, and other publications meet style, formatting, and general quality standards.
  • Ensures publications are edited according to deadline and within applicable budget constraints.
  • Examines physical proofs of printed materials.
  • Confirms that publications meet customer specifications.
  • Assist the Marketing team with Learning Center video content development as time permits to grow the multi-platform audience of USEF.
  • Maintains knowledge of developments and trends in the area of content specialty.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Communication with members and staff is effective and professional.
  • Relationships with Directors and other staff are productive and promote a positive team environment.
  • Assistance is provided to other department members when needed.

Required, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Experience managing and publishing a magazine
  • Knowledge of and experience in digital publishing platforms
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Proficient with text management and desktop publishing software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, or similar software.
  • Must have an understanding of SEO best practices and social media trends and platforms.
  • Must be knowledgeable in using analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Facebook Insights.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. (Anything over 25 pounds requires a two-person lift)

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or related field required.
  • At least five years of related experience in editing and publishing.
