As an Archaeologist in one these positions, you will:Serve as a professional field archaeologist for the Lakeview District or the Prineville District. The Prineville District position will have some responsibilities working with other Districts in Eastern Oregon and Washington as well
The incumbent is responsible for (1) Developing and implementing cultural resource inventories; (2) Preparing professional reports/maps of inventories and studies and reviewing reports/maps created by others, and (3) Ensuring all reports are adequate to comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and for submission to the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office. Specialists in this position must, at a minimum, fully meet the Professional Qualification Standards in the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation.
The Archeologist performs research, conducts field investigations, and integrates results (either their own or those of others) into agency or departmental documents. These include environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, operational program analyses, historic preservation compliance reports, and various other documents. The incumbent also manages cultural resource GIS and tabular data, conducts library research, interpretation or consultative work, and prepares reports. Cultural resources management work requires a professional knowledge of archaeological principles, theories, concepts, methods, and techniques. Fieldwork requires physical exertions, such as hiking, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, and lifting moderately heavy items, or similar activities. Fieldwork is required year-round in all weather conditions, and in rugged, uneven terrain on steep slopes and in dense brush.
Work with other archeologists and program staff as part of an interdisciplinary team to most efficiently conduct the work.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
