Description

URM Stores, Inc. is looking for a full time Transportation Supervisor to join our team. As our Transportation Supervisor, you will support all functions of the Transportation Department. You will manage drivers, routes, deliveries, maintenance, security and safety, and other transportation-related functions to create direct contributions to the division and to customers’ experiences. A successful candidate will have effectively demonstrated an ability to continuously build better service, manage daily processes, and instill a culture of innovation.

Selected candidate must be able to work the following shift:

Sunday - Thursday 6:30 pm to 4:30 am.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Create and administer daily routing and truck schedules.
  • Monitor and coordinate maintenance, fueling, and specialty needs.
  • Schedule vehicle repairs, arrange temporary vehicles and maintain requisite DOT reporting.
  • Monitor drivers and insure all drivers are properly trained and possess the necessary skills.
  • Assist in the coordination of driver training and testing.
  • Ensure application of safety, accident-prevention standards, methods, and procedures.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of infrastructure and process guidelines.
  • Drive efficiencies within the department and increasing division performance against key metrics.
  • Find opportunities to improve routing operations and increase back-haul revenues.
  • Promote and manage safety at all levels of the operation.
  • Lead and conduct performance management to foster departmental growth of personnel.
  • Participate in the selection, hiring, and employee relations of department personnel.
  • Complete paperwork such as evaluations, accident/injury logs, and other reports and records.
  • Assist in the payroll process of drivers.
  • Plan, implement, and monitor day-to-day transportation operations, including analysis of on-time reports, delivery reliability, off-load rate, and manpower needs.
  • Review and schedule daily routing of equipment and manpower to meet customer needs in terms of contractual guidelines, special deliveries, supplemental deliveries, opening orders, etc.
  • Resolve equipment failures or breakdowns, providing advice and assistance to drivers, as well as submitting appropriate reports to leasing/maintenance provider for service and repair. (15%)
  • Motivate employees, including performance evaluation, counseling, and problem resolution, to achieve a positive work environment.
  • Monitor and communicate with customers (late deliveries, etc.).
  • Supervise employees, including interpretation of rules in a union work environment, conflict resolution, and disciplinary action as required.

Skills & Experiences:

  • Minimum of 2 years of transportation experience.
  • Possess a Class A CDL strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Ability to manage routing and distribution, and logistic computer software.
  • Ability to analyze, critically evaluate situations, and communicate effectively.
  • Communication skills for internal and external departments. Relaying important information.
  • Organization / attention to detail – lots of manual pieces and paperwork.
